Triad Guide to Local Breweries

public.png

The Triad area is blessed with amazing, innovative breweries in all of our major cities.  In recognition of this burgeoning scene, we have worked with our favorite wine and beer experts at The Loaded Grape to cull a list of the best spots for beer, cider, and an overall good atmosphere. Grab a few friends and do a brewery tour one weekend! This is also a fun way to entertain out-of-town visitors since most of these spots have food trucks, live music, and other events on the weekends. For this Guide, we have listed the top recommendations as well as others in the area that deserve your consideration.

 PLEASE NOTE:

Some breweries may have restrictions due to COVID-19. Please visit the breweries’ websites and social media pages or contact them directly to confirm hours of operation and any special restrictions.

WINSTON-SALEM

Incendiary Brewing // 486 N Patterson Ave #105, Winston-Salem, NC

Located in the newly-renovated Bailey Power Plant in downtown. Incendiary has a cool atmosphere both inside and out, delicious beer in many styles, and it is conveniently located next to Winston’s Cugino Forno Pizzeria. It’s a great place for some pizza and beer.

Wise Man Brewing // 826 Angelo Bros Ave, Winston-Salem, NC

Love the atmosphere at this brewery. It is a really cool place to hang out and chat with friends for hour while enjoying well-crafted brews. We normally hit up a food truck while we are there so check ahead to see the schedule for the week. They also have a nice patio area if you want to be outside. This is a key destination for us because their Body Electric New England IPA is excellent.

OTHER BREWERIES THAT DESERVE A MENTION:

Fiddlin Fish Brewing Company // 772 Trade St. NW, Winston-Salem, NC

Voted “Best of the Beat” and “Best Pet-Friendly Bar” by Triad City Beat, this brewery possesses a great, friendly atmosphere with a fabulous bar staff. The taproom is in an old tobacco warehouse and they produce many traditional-style beers and also have a great seasonal selection. Great covered patio if you want to sit outdoors and regularly have live music.

Foothills Brewing Tasting Room // 3800 Kimwell Dr, Winston-Salem, NC

I think we can all agree that every Triad local has heard the name Foothills Brewing! They have a Pub in downtown (638 West Fourth St) with a great restaurant, as well as this location with the actual tasting room. Definitely a great place to take your guests to try classic and delicious brews that have won countless awards at state, regional, and national beer competitions.

Joymongers Barrel Hall // 480 W End Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC

Originally started in downtown Greensboro, Joymongers expanded to Winston-Salem and places an emphasis on entertaining the community while providing us with beers that are aged in fresh bourbon and wine barrels. The Winston-Salem location has a number of beers that are unique and only available at the Barrel Hall, which is a really cool old garage in historic West End. They have a great live music and food truck scene throughout the week. Definitely a fun place to hang out!

Radar Brewing Company // 216 E 9th St, Winston-Salem, NC

A newer brewery to the Winston scene, Radar is setting itself apart from other newbies due to its interesting brews, including a fun seasonal selection, and its location in Industry Hill, which is an up-and-coming section of town that has a full assortment of cool things to do – Wise Man Brewing, The Ramkat, Camel City Goods, Batl Axe Throwing, and much more.

Skull Camp Brewing // 2000 N Bridge St, Elkin, NC

Located a little west of Winston-Salem, this brewery still deserve a shout out. Skull Camp started as a winery but shifted into also having a brewery business and has a great tasting room for both in an old renovated general store. Added bonus if you make the trek, they have an awesome smoker and serve up some delicious fare. They have a covered patio and open area for lawn games, plus they are definitely pet-friendly!

GREENSBORO

Joymongers Brewing Co // 576 Eugene St, Greensboro, NC

The original Joymongers is located in Greensboro. They have great beer and they attract a lot of young professionals due to the location and the laidback but upscale vibe. On various nights of the week they’ll have live music, food trucks, and trivia. Indoor and outdoor seating options and pet-friendly.

Little Brother Brewing // 348 S Elm St, Greensboro, NC

A fun little boutique brewery located in Greensboro with another location in Graham. Great location right on Elm Street so very easy to add to your list when you’re in downtown Greensboro. Beers are tasty and lean toward experimental, so perfect if you’re an adventurous beer aficionado.

Pig Pounder Brewery // 1107 Grecade St, Greensboro, NC

Great brewery off Battleground in Midtown (across the street from Red Cinema). Typically has a lot of activities happening in addition to the fun beer options, including axe throwing, pool, ping pong, and live music. You definitely can spend a few hours here and not get bored.

SouthEnd Brewing Co // 117B W Lewis St, Greensboro, NC

The personal highlight of this brewery is their really great outdoor space that is perfect for hanging out in groups. The beer is inspired, it’s hard to go wrong with their selection. And did we mention their delicious food? They have some really great items coming out of their kitchen. They do a great Sunday Brunch and have events every week. Definitely a “must visit”!

OTHER BREWERIES THAT DESERVE A MENTION:

Bull City Ciderworks // 504 State St, Greensboro, NC

Just opened, the Greensboro location is the third (they are also in Durham and Lexington). If you like a hard cider, this is your ticket. Great location on one end of State Street, which is a shopping destination here in town. Perfect place to grab a cider after supporting all those amazing local businesses. Big indoor and outdoor space where you can hang out with your friends.

Oden Brewing // 802 W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC

A fabulous newer addition to the brewery scene. Great atmosphere and we love the indoor and outdoor seating options. Interesting mix of beers, you are sure to find some that you just love. They’ve done a great job innovating during the pandemic and have a number of different events each week, from trivia to live music to movie nights. Definitely a great spot!

HIGH POINT

Brown Truck Brewery // 1234 N Main St, High Point, NC

Really great outdoor space and we love the congenial atmosphere at this brewery. They typically have live music and food trucks on the weekends. And let’s not forget the award-winning beer! Definitely a great place to hang out in central High Point.

Goofy Foot Taproom & Brewery // 2762 NC-68, Greensboro, NC

Just about any time you talk to a High Point local, this is where they tell you to go. Goofy Foot is a small batch brewery for their own beers and the taproom also carries a number of beers from other local breweries, so it is a great place to check out lots of beer in one spot. If you are looking for “where the locals go,” check out their taproom!

Paddled South Brewing Company // 602 N Main St, High Point, NC

COMING SOON. This brewery is slated to open in early 2021. Their emphasis will be on craft beer and bourbon-barrel aged beer with a particular interest in Belgian and German-style beers. The building looks like it will have fabulous ambiance and they are planning to have food trucks, live music, and lots of interesting community events. Definitely one to keep an eye on!

KERNERSVILLE

Gypsy Road Brewing Company // 1105 E Mountain St, Kernersville, NC

A great little microbrewery with a really great outdoor space. They have a lot of really interesting beer options, including seasonal selections, and they have a great lineup of events happening throughout the week. Kernersville is a happening little spot these days anyway due to the influx of young professionals that have moved to the area, so this is definitely one to put on your list when you are over that way.

Kernersville Brewing Company // 221 N Main St, Kernersville, NC

Located in historic downtown Kernersville, this brewery has a focus on American and German-style brews and has a fairly extensive lineup that should appeal to every taste. They tend to have events and food trucks there almost every day, so you always have entertainment when you are there.

BURLINGTON AREA

Bright Penny Brewing // 107 N 7th St, Mebane, NC

This is a veteran-owned and operated brewery that has a fun mix of all styles of beer. They also have a great food menu. We have a particular love for their Deviled Eggs. You can order flights of deviled eggs – at last count, they have 9 different types of deviled eggs and they’re all amazing! Its location is in the heart of historic downtown Mebane, which is another great southern town that everyone should visit. Tons of great shopping and dining option in just a few blocks’ radius of the brewery.

Forgotten Road Ales // 141 E Harden St, Graham, NC

Another veteran-owned and operated brewery that specializes in barrel-aged beers, sours, and IPA’s. They make great beer and on a nice day, they have a really cool area to hang out as well as frequent food trucks.

Haw River Farmhouse Ales // 1713 Saxapahaw-Bethlehem Church Rd, Saxapahaw, NC

Here we have a focus on Belgian-style brews and they try to source their ingredients locally wherever possible. This brewery is located right around the corner from The Eddy Pub, Saxapahaw General Store, and the Haw River Ballroom (really great event venue). If you haven’t checked out this little slice of heaven yet, you definitely need to day trip to Saxapahaw and soak up some fresh air by the river. They have a ton of events throughout the year, particularly in summer months, and the food at The Eddy and the General Store is pretty phenomenal. One of my favorite butcher shops is Left Bank Butchery, right by the Eddy. Make the trek from our area, you won’t be sorry.

Red Oak // 6901 Konica Dr, Whitsett, NC

One of the biggest breweries in our area, Red Oak has done a fabulous job creating their taproom. The Lager Haus Biergarten is like Oktoberfest every day! They obviously specialize in German-style beers and they do it very, very well. The outdoor space is also fabulous so you have great options year-round. You can also tour their brewery (best to set that up in advance). Definitely a must experience brewery!!
