Triad Guide to Local Wineries

Interested in a fun day out with friends or trying interesting local wineries? Our Triad Wineries Guide is here to help! We consulted our favorite local wine connoisseurs at The Loaded Grape in Greensboro, NC and they filled us in on the best of the best in the Yadkin Valley and other nearby areas. All of these wineries are within reasonable driving distance of the Triad and offer tasting rooms and special events for their customers.

PLEASE NOTE

Some wineries may have restrictions due to COVID-19. Please visit the wineries’ web sites or contact them directly to confirm hours of operation and any special restrictions.

Brandon Hills // 1927 Brandon Hills Rd, Yadkinville, NC

This winery is one of our absolute favorites for watching the sunset in the Yadkin Valley. They have a nice mix of sweet and dry North Carolina wines. They also have summer slushees – always fun after drinking wine all day!

Childress Winery // 1000 Childress Vineyards Rd, Lexington, NC

We enjoy taking trips down to Childress, especially for their extensive roster of special events. The Easter Egg Cork Hunt is always a favorite. They also have great wine slushees to enjoy in the heat of the summer. Their restaurant, The Bistro, is wonderful and it does an amazing brunch as well.

Jolo Winery // 219 Jolo Winery Ln, Pilot Mountain, NC

This winery was rated #1 of the Top Wineries outside California by TripAdvisor in 2020.  They have a great mix of Sweet and Dry Wines. The Jolotage and the Beach Bubbles are amongst our favorites. Jolo also has an amazing restaurant, End Posts. We highly recommend this winery in the springtime because the view of Pilot Mountain is incredible.

Jones Von Drehle Vineyard and Winery // 964 Old Railroad Grade Rd, Thurmond, NC

This winery is getting lots of attention outside of North Carolina. They have medaled in the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition for their Petit Manseng and Cab Franc. This vineyard has a lovely facility and they have almost completed a new building with an amphitheater for live music. This will be a popular place in 2021 for live music on the weekends.

Junius Lindsay Winery // 385 Dr Zimmerman Rd, Lexington, NC

In our opinion, this Winery makes one of the best wines in North Carolina. They grow French Rhône Valley Grapes like Syrah and Grenache. They also make some of the best wines for dry wine lovers in North Carolina. Please go visit and see for yourself.

Lazy Elm Vineyard // 523 Danner Rd, Mocksville, NC

A more laidback winery, they still make some of the best North Carolina wines. The Damn Yankee is a Red Blend that is year after year their bestseller. If you enjoy that wine, you need to buy it this spring before it is all gone.

Midnight Magdalena Vineyards // 5109 Howell School Rd, Jonesville, NC

We absolutely love this family-owned and operated vineyard. They make both Sweet and Dry North Carolina Wine. Their Petit Verdot and Malbec are current favorites. We always make time to stop at this winery when we are in the area. Great wines, great people and conveniently less then a mile from both Piccione and Raffaldini so you can hit 3 wineries in a day without driving very far.

Piccione Vineyards // 2364 Cedar Forest Rd, Ronda, NC

Located right next door to Raffaldini, they also offer Italian style wines and the view is just as amazing. We normally spend the afternoon listening to live music here on the weekends since they don’t tend to be as crowded as Raffaldini. However, they are about to build a new tasting room so that will likely change.

Raffaldini Vineyards // 450 Groce Rd, Ronda, NC

Visiting this winery is like heading to the piedmont region of Italy but it is only in the Yadkin Valley. They make wine using Italian wine varietals like Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese and Montepulciano. The tasting room resembles an Italian villa perched on a hilltop and possesses beautifully scenic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

RayLen Vineyards // 3577 US-158, Mocksville, NC

This is another great place to visit for live music on the weekends. They have an amazing red blend called the Category 5. RayLen hosts lots of events throughout the year so be sure to check their website and social media before going out there.

Shadow Springs // 5543 Crater Rd, Hamptonville, NC

This winery has ties to Windsor Run, which has a distillery as well. However, when it comes to the wine, we much prefer Shadow Springs. The Tasting Room is a beautiful place to sit and relax and watch the water feature in the pond next to the vineyard.

Shelton Vineyards // 286 Cabernet Ln, Dobson, NC

One of the best wineries in the area with a wonderful restaurant, Harvest Grill. Make this your lunch or dinner stop when visiting the Yadkin Valley.
